Here in this video I am discussing after market car door remote control installation. This is a supporting video to my previous car remote control installation video. In this video I explore more things which need further explanation for an average DIY. This video is dedicated to one of our friends Mr. Tariq Shehzad Rana. He is about to install remote control on his car and he managed many things himself. Hope this video will help him and many others who are about to install a system like this on their cars. Here I tried to give more than enough details even for a novice. Anyhow if any further explanation is required, please don't hesitate to ask any question. All constructive comments are welcome.
The car remote control referred as car security system some time is a common feature on today's car. There are after market car security systems available on the market whereas on some car makes and models security systems are equipped with car from factory. There is an immobilizer in the car which immobilizes the car and protects it from theives. That is different than the car security system remote control. The immobilizer is working differently compared to remote control. The immobilizer is cutting off fuel from the engine if original key is not provided to the car which had already been programmed in the car ECU or PCM. So the car would not start if a thief attempt to start it and try to steel it using ordinary techniques like key matching or key cylinder tempering. The security reprogramming or cheating is something not an easy job which could be done in long time and needs workshop level environment. Such a system is very nice and reliable but a big headache if the own forget or loss the key somewhere and he or she tries to start it again.The car key reprogramming technique I will explain in some other video. Here in this video I explained how to connect the after market remote control or security system if your car had no car remote control equipped and you are about to connect a security system in your car. I tried explaining every detail here even a diy or newbie even can install or repair his or her existing remote control.
To connect a remote control in a car one should understand the remote control itself as well as should understand the car door locks wiring and control. Some cars have mater lock already available from the factory. In such a car it is very easy to install such remote control. If master locking is not available, one will connect motor actuators and other wiring himself to connect such a remote control. Doing such a work will be a big work. I explained all details in this series of videos will everything clear for you. The remote control installation is not very difficult if once you understand the system. There is no big complexity in the system if one know how to deal with electricity. If you have your car factory or service manual, it will be even easy to deal with such a remote control installation or system repair. The entire system will work flawlessly and trouble free if once install with care. The remote control is a good facility as long as your car door locks are good in not in very old condition. The old and defective locks itself are a big problem. The defective locks are difficult to open even manually and by remote control again they are further problem. So better if you are going to install a remote control in a car, you should maintain your door locks first. Cleaning and lubrication can help to maintain the car door locks. The door lock mechanism should be replaced if very bad and beyond maintenance. As very defective and worn out door lock mechanism could not come to life again. These door locking mechanisms are a bit expensive to replace as they are complex mechanical locking system. The replacement is anyhow not very difficult. To replace a door lock mechanism you should understand the attachment to it. Then carefully remove the mechanism from the car door and replace it will a new one. I have a video on Chevy door motor replacement on my channel explaining the door look mechanism removal and installation. After installing the new door lock mechanism you should provide the screws with thread lock so that the door lock screws should not come open with vibrations. The door lock mechanism should be lubricated using WD40 or any other suitable lubricant spray so that the door lock mechanism will com to good state and will function properly.

In electronics repair, we need different signals to input in a circuit to test its behavior. Those signals are produced using a signal or function generator. The function generator is commonly used in radio equipment repair and maintenance. As all stages of a radio equipment is dealing with signals in one way or another, the function generator is compulsory to test and analyse such signal stages for possible fault and to ensure proper operation of the stage.

In electronics design and development the function generator has a vital role. In the electronics design it is needed to analyse and calculate the circuit behavior to different signals which will be passed by that circuit in its service. So such signals are produced in lab using a function generator.

Function generator has its range and limitation according to its use and price range. The wide range and more functions function generator is more expensive where as the limited range and less functions function generator is low cost. The type of function generator we use depends upon our need and requirements.

Here is a low cost function generator presented which is available from the ICStation.com company as kit. The main part of this function generator is IC555 which produces the frequency of about 1KHz and then this signal is further processed to produce Sin wave, triangular wave, sawtooth wave and square wave. There is amplitude control also available to control gain of the out put signal.

Here is the PCB for the circuit. The PCB is good quality green. The component layout silk screen is well written. There are component designation as well as components value also printed on the board for easy assembly.

Start the assembling process by inserting the IC socket in the PCB in its place on board. Take care of the IC socket orientation on the board. The notch in the IC socket should match the notch mark on the board.

Place all ceramic capacitor on the board taking care of their coded values written on them. Proper value capacitor should to to its corresponding place on the board.

Cut the excess leads of the components after soldering them to board using side cutting priers. The leads should be cut shorter enough so that they should not touch to the corresponding nearby components lead and should not create bridges.

Check all resistors for their value using multimeter. Put resistors in their corresponding place after checking them for values.

Put in the jumper header pins on the board for waveform selection and for output as well. Solder them on the other side of the board.

While putting electrolytic capacitor on the board, take special care of their polarity. They are polarity sensitive components. There is negative pin marked on the capacitor body as well as the negative lead is shorter where as the positive lead is longer. Also the negative hole area is marked shaded on the board.

Insert the IC in its socket already soldered to the board. Take special care not to insert IC in reverse direction otherwise the circuit will not work and also the IC will be blown when the circuit is powered up. The notch on the IC socket should be lined up with the notch on the IC.

What does throttle body and how it works?

The first part of a gasoline engine through which air is sucked in the engine is the throttlebody.

Engine is basically an air pump. It sucks air, ignite fuel in it and discharge the air through tail pipe. Throttle body is the essential part of a gasoline engine in the air intake system where the throttle body controls the intake air to the engine. A throttle body is a butterfly valve in a housing where it is mounted on a shaft. The butterfly valve can be rotated through a mechanical linkage cable or through a servo motor electrically. The motion of the butterfly valve is registered to the ecu or car computer through a sensor known as throttle position sensor or TPS.

When the gas pedal or accelerator pedal is pushed the butterfly or throttle plate inside the throttle body is opened and allows the air to the engine cylinder or combustion chamber. When the gas pedal is depressed, the butterfly valve or the throttle plate closes and it restricts the air flow to the engine. By this way the quantity of air is controlled to the engine and hence the engine or vehicle speed is controlled.

How Throttle body Works

Throttle body is located in between the air filter and air intake manifold of an engine. The butterfly valve or the throttle plate inside the throttle body precisely control the air intake to the engine. The quantity of the air regulates the air fuel mixture to the gasoline engine. The engine needs air fuel mixture in a stoichiometry level of 14.7:1 for proper ignition and optimum performance. If this stoichiometry level is not maintained, the optimum operation and the performance can’t achieve. Throttle body controls the air fuel ration very precisely all the time manually by mechanical wire linkage or electronically through ecu or computer.

The throttle body consists some more systems like IAC or idle air control valve which is used to regulate the idle running of the vehicle. The IAC valve was used on old style throttle bodies which were using a mechanical linkage cable to activate the throttle plate or the butterfly plate inside the throttle body. IAC valve or idle air control valve function is to retain the vehicle in start condition at idle running conditions at 600 rpm all the time in all circumstances. The IAC valve or the idle air control valve automatically regulates the engine speed to 600 rpm when air conditioner compressor kicks on and the vehicle is stopped at signals or in parking area start at idle speed and people sitting inside.

The newer throttle bodies don’t use the mechanical linkage cable. Instead they use a servo system controlled by engine control unit of ecu to regulate the air intake through throttle body. These new throttle bodies controls or regulates the air intake at idle through main throttle plate or butterfly valve. Their control is very precise as in such new throttle bodies the throttle plate or the butterfly valve is not directly controlled through the driver foot but it is controlled by ecu or engine control module.

Problems with throttle body and their Solutions

Throttle body common defect is dust accumulation inside the throttle body or the IAC valve or idle air control valve. As 10000 liters of air is required to burn 1 liter of petrol. All this air is passed through the throttle body. Although there is a filter located before the throttle body but still air contains very fine particles of air which could be accumulated inside the throttle body and they create issues in air regulation especially idling become poor and rough if a throttle body accumulated dust inside. The dust accumulation is not a very quick process and it depends upon your environment where you drive your car and how often you drive your can in routine. The solution to this problem is to clean and wash the throttle body after certain period of time.

Other problem could be a worn out throttle plate spindle bushings or bearings. In some cases there bushings could be replaced and in most of the cases the whole throttle body is replaced with a new one. Although this defect is very seldom and not very common.

In some cases you will see defective temperature sensor at throttle body. The sensor could be failed sometimes due to aging and mostly due to some other loose connection somewhere in the car wiring. In such a case the sensor replacement and the loose connection repair could solve the defect.

Many people do think they can connect a motor and generator shaft to shaft and connect their cable too. They think if once this set up is started up once, the generator would produce electricity and then motor consumes the produce energy and will run the generator and generator will produce further energy and this way the machine would run itself without any external energy source and needs. Thinking in such a way is just fine and satisfying as if could be done in proper way, we can produce tons of free energy to run this machine itself and also such generator will output tons of energy on the output extension cable connected to generator terminals. Governors are used to regulated the prime mover speed on prime mover to keep the produced power constant in voltage and frequency. The electrical load on generator is translated in mechanical load on the prime mover. When electrical load on the generator increases, the generator becomes heavier and the load comes on prime mover. They prime mover need more input energy to overcome that extra mechanical load. The input energy to the prime mover is regulated by the governor. In case of engine prime mover the governor increases fuel supply to the engine to overcome that extra mechanical load. Quantity of water input is increased in case of hydro power turbine.
