Sandwich maker or sandwich grill is a common house hold electrical appliance used in every house and every facility. They are daily use electrical appliances. They are of different make and model. One thing is common in all of them is the heating element and a sort of temperature controlling switch operated on some preset or selectable temperature range. The heating element are heated by line power and are switched off when the desired temperature is reached. By that way the grill or heating plate is heated and the toast put there is also grilled or heated by that temperature.
Sandwich makers or sandwich grill are reliable equipment but some times they develop troubles. The result is no heating grill or heating plates. Normally there are electrical connection problem or temperature controlling switch problem. The heating element failure is also possible but that is a rare fault. So if a grill or sandwich maker have good heating element but some connection or temperature problem, they can be repaired and can be brought back to life again.
Sometimes manufacturers are making items which are very easily going defective with a little electrical fluctuation or aging. The purpose of such design is to ensure the dealership money making in case of repair or making the item use and through so that the customer must go to a new unit in case if one of his or her unit go bad. The silicon type fuses are common example in electrical appliances now a days used. The silicon fuses are very sensitive and quick blow type. If due to any reason the current rating of the fuse exceeds, they melt very quickly and in the result the appliance stop working.
In such a case the customer consults the dealership for repair or they just through the unit away and go for a new one. So in both the cases such companies are making money. Most people don't know how to repair electrical items or appliances them selves or they don't bather repair them even they get a small fault like a blown internal fuse. In such a case they just waste their money as such items can be repaired for very small or no money and in very short time like 10 to 20 minutes at home! So repairing such items in most cases can be the best choice to save some money and not to make a good and working equipment garbage.

A few tools like fillips screw driver, pliers, cutter, nose pliers, soldering iron and a multimter is needed to carry on such a job.

Locate all four outer body screws. Unscrew them and remove them and keep them in side for use them in the end to fix the product back after repair.

Locate the internal six screws and unscrew them. Keep them side with the reset of the screws.

Open both covers sides after removing all screws an locate the connections there.

With the help of multimeter test both elements on continuity range and you should get some ohmic value along with the beep on meter. This is showing good elements. If elements are opened, the unit is then no more repairable and should be discarded. But in our case both elements were good so the unit was repairable and we proceed further.

Check for temperature switch. It should show zero ohm and continuity as the unit is cold. It will become open when the unit become hot and will reach to the preset temperature.

Check for the power card and power plug so that they should have continuity from pug to inside connections. Check for all two or three prongs of plugs and corresponding connections inside the unite.

Check if any wire is disconnect or burn anywhere. As in our case there was one spade connector was corroded and burned. So it was no more passing current to the element.

| Locate the defective connections. |
Check for the silicon fuse located closed to the unit elements and that fuse is supplying power to the elements. The fuse should show the continuity if it is good. The bad or blown fuse will not have continuity.

Check for other spade connectors also for integrity and snug fixation. Rewire the fuse with two strains of wires as it was a 10 Ampere fuse. Such kind of replacement fuse is not easily available.

Solder both sides of the rewired fuse to avoid any lose connection in future.

Use a new spade connector to replace the old burned spade connector.

Snug and tight the spade connector using the crimping tool or using pliers. The connection should be very much tight to avoid any loose connection in future.

Secure the spade connector using fiber glass insulating slew to avoid any short circuit.

Clean the connection area from rust and dirt using a small screw driver as scrapper.

Fix the connection by slipping the spade connector on its other counter part.

Power up the unit by plugging it in power. Check for the light indicator so that they should show that the unit is powered up.

Put your portable thermometer temperature sensor inside the unit to check for the unit temperature.

The rise of temperature on the thermometer will show the heating up of the unit. As in our case below it reached to 65C but it would rise further with time.
